ABOUT US
Our Beginnings
When Lillian, founder of iGlamor Bar, was a young girl and as often happens in Dominican families, her mother made sure she learned hair styling. As an unpopular girl in her early school years, with no sisters, Lillian always felt like the ugly duckling growing up with the Bronx. She loved watching movies and playing dress up like her favorite actresses. She would take her mothers makeup and make a mess on her face playing with it. She became obsessed with becoming more beautiful as she perceived herself as not being very glamorous or pretty at all. At the time that Lillian graduated from college, YouTube makeup tutorials started to boom. She became obsessed, practiced every single day and started her blog shortly after to share what she had learned.
iGlamor Bar started in 2010 as a blog where Founder, Lillian, shared her love for beauty, skin care, fashion and GLAM in general. Lillian graduated from Hunter College in 2006 with a BA degree in psychology and went to work in that field. She found that she loved serving people, but didn’t love the red tape involved in the social services field. Finding that she was not happy in the career she then went to beauty school, which was clear to her, was her passion.
Getting to Work
After playing so much with makeup from a young age, and watching far too many apricot scrub commercials, Lillian found that she damaged her skin with hyperpigmentation and scars. She wanted to learn how to fix it and how to teach others to do so as well and so she started working in different spas in NYC learning from great mentors. She fell in love with the industry and knew that she would be eventually starting her own business.
She started small from a tiny room from her home. At the same time she was going through a heart wrenching divorce, which killed her self esteem all together. She found that customers were really loving her, the demand was increasing and eventually she quit her full time job to dedicate to her own business full time.
Learning Self-Love
After her divorce, Lillian found herself thriving and growing in business but emotionally crushed. She built such a strong bond with her clients and they essentially built each other up. She would show them empowerment in self care and they in turn taught her that she provided them with a great service and so much value that she too should love herself. Self worth wasn’t about being loved by a partner or having a huge amount of great friends, but seeing that you are a person worthy of the love of yourself, and spreading love and this understanding to others makes you feel fulfilled. It was a tough journey to reach, but she found it and has now found her purpose in helping anyone else who thinks that being loved is only a matter of what you look like on the outside or how many others love you.
